An imbalance in oxidant/antioxidant dynamics: correlation with therapeutic response in patients with carcinoma of posterior one third of the tongue.
Pre-concomitant chemoradiation treatment levels of lipid peroxide were significantly elevated while antioxidant levels were lowered in cancer patients with newly diagnosed squamous cell carcinoma of the posterior one third of the tongue compared to controls. After chemotherapy, lipid peroxidation showed a significant decline, while antioxidants showed a significant rise in complete responders, compared with partial/nonresponders, and remained highly significant after therapy and during 3 months of follow-up. Pretreatment levels of antioxidant-oxidant parameters and the extent of their change during treatment can predict the therapeutic response to concomitant chemoradiation in carcinoma tongue.

Pre-operative intracellular glutathione levels of peripheral monocytes as a biomarker to predict survival of colorectal cancer patients.
The ability to predict anti-tumor immune responses at local tumor growing sites using only peripheral blood specimens would be helpful in determining therapeutic options for patients with solid tumors. Here, we show that the glutathione intracellular content (icGSH) of peripheral monocytes (Mo) correlates positively with T cell infiltration within tumor islets and overall survival in patients with colorectal carcinoma.

การศึกษาผู้ป่วยที่เพิ่งถูกตรวจพบว่าเป็นมะเร็งบริเวณโคนลิ้นก่อนเข้ารับการบำบัดด้วยคีโมและรังสีพบว่าค่า lipid peroxide (ซึ่งเกิดจากการทำลายโมเลกุลไขมันในเนื้อเยื่อหุ้มเซลล์โดยอนุมูลอิสระ) อยู่ในระดับสูงในขณะที่สารต้านอนุมูลอิสระมีระดับต่ำเมื่อเทียบกับระดับในคนปกติ การตรวจวัดผู้ป่วยหลังจบคอร์สเคมีบำบัดแล้วพบว่า lipid peroxide มีระดับลดลงอย่างมากในขณะที่ระดับสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระเพิ่มสูงขี้นอย่างมีนัยสำคัญเฉพาะในผู้ป่วยมะเร็งที่มีการตอบสนองต่อการบำบัดที่ดีเยี่ยมเมื่อเทียบกับระดับในผู้ป่วยที่ตอบสนองต่อการบำบัดน้อยหรือไม่ตอบสนองต่อการบำบัด โดย lipid peroxide และสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระยังคงระดับที่แสดงการฟื้นตัวที่ดีในผู้ป่วยมะเร็งที่มีการตอบสนองต่อการบำบัดที่ดีเยี่ยมแม้ในช่วงตรวจเช็คร่างกาย 3 เดือนหลังจบการบำบัดไปแล้ว การตรวจค่าสารต้านอนุมูลอิสระและอนุมูลอิสระในช่วงก่อนรับการบำบัดและการเปลี่ยนแปลงของค่าดังกล่าวช่วงรับการบำบัดมะเร็งอาจช่วยพยากรณ์ผลการตอบสนองต่อการรักษาเคมีและรังสีบำบัดในผู้ป่วยโรคมะเร็ง SSC (squamous cell carcinoma) บริเวณโคนลิ้นได้
